Project Update: Laying the Groundwork for the Light Board Project

As the Light Board Project continues to develop, our team has been focused on establishing the systems, research approaches, and communication practices needed to support meaningful community engagement and long-term impact. This work has been guided by Project Director Meriam Meddeb and Research & Strategy Team Coordinator Gillian G., with contributions from members of the Light Board Project team across research, strategy, communications, and project operations. Their leadership helped establish a strong foundation for future phases of the project while ensuring activities remain aligned with community needs and project objectives.

Strengthening Project Management

The Light Board Project continues to move forward as we build the foundation for future research, community engagement, and action. Over the past several months, the project team has been focused on developing the research approach, engagement strategy, and communications framework that will guide future phases of the initiative. This work has been informed by Project Director Meriam Meddeb and Research & Strategy Director, Gillian G., whose guidance has helped shape the project's early direction and priorities.

Building the Research Foundation

Before engaging communities directly, the project team is working to better understand the existing information landscape across Ontario. Current activities include reviewing publicly available research, examining existing approaches to information sharing and accessibility, and exploring lessons learned from previous initiatives. This work will help identify existing knowledge, reduce duplication of effort, and inform future community engagement activities.

By understanding what is already known, the project can focus future research on gaps, barriers, and opportunities that matter most to communities.

Preparing for Community Engagement

A key focus of the next phase will be engaging directly with community members, organizations, and stakeholders.

The project aims to better understand:

• What information people are looking for.

• What barriers make information difficult to access or understand.

• How individuals currently find and use information.

• What improvements could help people navigate services, programs, and resources more effectively.

These conversations will help ensure future project activities are informed by lived experiences and community priorities.

Developing Accessible Communications

The team is also developing a communications approach designed to keep communities informed throughout the project.

A strong emphasis is being placed on plain-language communication, transparency, and accessibility. Future updates will share research insights, community engagement opportunities, and stories that highlight local perspectives and experiences.

Looking Ahead

The Light Board Project is designed to learn, adapt, and respond to community needs as research progresses. Future phases may inform a variety of community-driven actions, including educational initiatives, service navigation supports, communication improvements, community partnerships, and broader recommendations aimed at improving equitable access to information.
