What We Do

Our community-led approach focuses on working alongside residents to bring people together around shared goals – through organizing, guidance, and empowerment – so they can participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives. The Light Board Project, our current initiative, aims to increase access to information and facilitate two-way communication between residents, community partners who help share information, and decision-makers who shape policies and programs.

A Model for Engagement

Essentially, a light board allows a presenter to maintain face-to-face engagement with their audience while simultaneously interacting with them through dynamic visuals and real-time communication.

Think of the Light Board Project as a model for engagement rather than the physical tool.

Building on this concept, the Light Board Project focuses on improving how community information partners share updates with residents. By fostering transparent communication, collaboration, and meaningful participation, the project helps residents engage in ways that reflect their needs and lived experiences.

Get Involved

This is an exciting journey to solve a challenge alongside community members. We are learning together with residents and invite local leaders and partners to join us in facilitating transparent, accessible, and accountable information for communities in Ontario.

Light Board Project: Enhancing Community Access to Information

Active Leaders of Love (ALL) is committed to closing information gaps and making community information accessible through the Light Board Project, by improving how residents access updates about local programs, services, and community initiatives. Our goal is simple: help people easily stay informed and connected in ways that matter to them.

Many Ontarians, particularly in urban areas, face challenges in accessing the information they need. As a result, residents navigate updates on local projects, services, and resources, often encountering information that is fragmented, difficult to access, or inconsistently delivered across the community. Our initial research indicates that available community information could be clearer, more timely, more accessible, and equally available to all members of the community. Through further research and testing in a local area, the project may inform recommendations for improved tools, educational campaigns, policy changes, or advocacy strategies.

Explore challenges: Understand the obstacles residents face in finding and using information.

Clarify needs: Identify what information is most needed and how it can be made accessible and clear.

Communicate insights: Share findings and recommendations in ways that are meaningful for residents and community partners.

Support improvements: Advocate for refinements to tools, resources, or processes that enhance access and engagement.
